Braces are the standard method of correcting crooked teeth and are of different types.

Metal Braces

Metal braces are the most popular and cost effective option, we can offer a multitude of colours to make the braces look fun and interesting as there are modules that are placed to hold the wire . Metal braces are hassle free but definitively very visible. For the very sensitive patients they might not be such a good option as they have a higher tendency to cause mouth ulcers.

Keeping this in mind, ceramic braces are a better option.

Ceramic Braces

For the aesthetically conscious patients ceramic braces are an ideal choice as they are white in colour they blend in well with the teeth. The one drawback of ceramic braces are that ceramic being a brittle material and a sharp impact on the brace can cause it to chip or fracture. But if sufficient care is taken most patients finish their treatment successfully without breakages.

Self Ligating Braces

Self ligating braces do not need any elastic modules for holding the wire to the braces, consequently offer a huge advantage of less friction resulting in faster tooth movement. They are immensely beneficial for those patients who cannot meet their orthodontist on a 3 week schedule as the wire remains active for a longer period of time. Self ligating braces are also beneficial in cases where the orthodontist wants to convert a borderline case from extraction to non extraction. These braces work on the principle of low forces resulting in arch development and natural growth.

They are also available in metal as well as ceramic.

Invisible Braces

Invisible braces are of two types—Lingual braces and Invisalign

Lingual braces

These are put behind the teeth and more expensive and also take a little time to get used to in comparison to the traditional braces .A good choice for working professionals and socially active people. Major challenges with them are

• difficulty in speech for 10-15 days
• difficulty in maintaining good oral hygiene

Invisalign

Aligners have flayed into the Indian market sometime back and have become very popular with adult patients who want flexibility to be able to remove their braces/aligners if they need to. Your orthodontist is a specially trained INVISALIGN specialist. Invisalign takes a modern approach to straighten the teeth out using a custom made series of aligners created for you. These aligners trays are made up of smooth, comfortable and most importantly virtually invisible plastic that you wear over your teeth. There are no metal brackets and no wires to attach.

You generally pop in a new aligner every 10 days until your treatments is complete. Most people don’t even come to know that you are doing any treatment and before you know it you have that beautiful smile you always wanted.

Please note that age is not a limiting condition in doing conventional braces or Invisalign but the gum and bone health should be good.
